The Israel-Palestinian war has been dragging on for many years. The Zionist Jews who were forced to leave Europe after the Holocaust made their way back to the Middle East to establish a Jewish state. However, some Palestinians were already settled in some of these areas claimed by the Jews and refused to budge at the invasion of the Israelis. Till date, the two nations fail to recognize or respect each others national identity or the right to dwell in that region. Hence, their never-ending dispute.
Key issues include: mutual recognition, borders, security, water rights, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement, and resolving Palestinian claims of a right of return for their refugees.
But contrary to what most people believe, the war is beyond Israelis and Palestinians. The Western super powers have their vested interests (e.g. the United States) and their neighbouring Arab nations are deeply but subtly involved as well. While Israel seems to be the only known enemy of the Palestinians, it is important to note that there is more to it than meets the eye.
